Review: The Screaming O Vibrarting Condom Ring

December 9th, 2010
Screaming O Vibrating Condom Ring from Theirtoys.com

I am fascinated by men’s sex toys. Perhaps this fascination stems from realizing there is a world of toys that I can never fully experience, or perhaps I am just excited that an industry thought to be mostly for women is so creatively opening up a whole new world of pleasure for men. Either way, any time I’m given the opportunity to experiment with sex toys for men I jump at the chance, which is exactly what I did when a representative of TheirToys.com contacted me and offered to let me test the Screaming O Vibrating Cock Ring.

Although I was excited at the opportunity to test the Screaming O, I have to admit that I was somewhat skeptical that it would provide any added stimulation for my male partner (Vincent, in this case). I have often suspected that cock rings with vibrators attached – especially the cheaper disposable ones like the Screaming O – are designed more with the woman’s pleasure in mind than the man’s. They simply become a device to hold a vibrator in place. But what I often forget is that the vibrating sensation can be pleasurable for a man as well as a woman.

The Screaming O Condom Ring is meant to be worn over a condom but, because Vincent is very particular about the condoms he uses, we didn’t use the one provided in the package (the packaging also states that the device can be used with or without a condom). The flexible band has little knobs that are supposed to provide stimulation for the cock, and a sleeve at the top holds a tiny vibrator and has numbs intended to tickle a clit in just the right way. It was stretchy enough to easily fit around Vincent’s penis and testicles while being tight enough to hold the vibrator in place once we got started. The switch to turn on the vibrator was a little difficult for me to find, although Vincent found it with ease.

At first I thought the vibrations of the tiny vibrator weren’t going to be strong enough to provide more than the tiniest boost of stimulation, but combined with the nubs on the sleeve and Vincent’s cock going in and out of me, the Screaming O was a – pardon the pun – screaming success. And, much to my delight, Vincent also enjoyed the vibrations. He did say, however, that the vibration – while pleasurable – was a little distracting.

When we finished and removed the ring we realized that it had been on backwards and that the nubs on the vibrator sleeve had been facing Vincent’s pelvis the entire time. We couldn’t help but wonder if it would have been even better for me if the nubs had been facing out and properly tickling my clit. Alas, the packaging clearly states (in CAPITOL LETTERS) that the ring should not be reused. And we wouldn’t go against the manufacturer’s warning, would we?

Yeah, we did. What can I say? I’m a hippie, so I’m not a fan of disposing of things after only one use. I’m also a cheapskate, so buying another one – even at the low, low price – didn’t appeal to me.

I can’t, in good conscience, recommend this, but the second time around was also very good. This time we made sure the nubs were pointing out, and I found that they were a little irritating. Maybe having them facing away from my clit was the better choice. But I do have a very sensitive clit, so it’s possible that on some women the nubs would be perfect. Vincent, however, found that the vibrations were more pleasurable than distracting the second time around. He suspected that the battery may have been running low and the weaker vibrations provided the perfect amount of stimulation without distracting from the pleasurable sensations of my pussy.

All in all, I’d give the Screaming O Vibrating Condom Ring a 3 out of 5. Maybe as much as a 3.5. It exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. But I know that if I spent a little more I’d get a product that was slightly better and reusable. Still, I wouldn’t kick it out of bed.

Have you used the Screaming O or a similar product? I’d love to hear your opinions in the comments.

So many toys…

Misty's sex toys

You know what they say: So many toys, so little time.

My toybox is overflowing with products I haven’t yet tested for you guys, and it’s time I got busy. But where do I start? That’s where you come in! I’ve narrowed it down to three very different toys, and I want your vote. Take a look at the descriptions of the following three toys, and then tell me in the comments which one you’d like to hear me test first. One lucky commenter will be given the opportunity to be on the phone with me while I do it! Without further ado, here are your three choices:

Candy Color Glass Dildo
Hand-blown glass dildos in carnival colors captivate like a grown-up carousel ride. Mount the candy-colored toy, hang on and slide up and down the seamless glass shaft as the swelling beads aim right for your G-spot or prostate. If you just want to lay back, munch cotton candy, and dream of tattooed ladies, the extra-long handle makes it easy for your partner to please you, too. Since they’re hand-blown, each dildo is unique.

Fukuoku 9000
It’s the finger vibrator everyone’s been talking about, the Fukuoku 9000. The Fukuoku slides comfortably over your finger and has three different silicone sleeve attachments for slight sensation variation. Great for partner sex or travel (it comes with its own handy carrying case).

Hitachi Magic Wand
Known as “the Cadillac of Vibrators” and perhaps the world’s most popular vibrating sex toy, the Hitachi Magic Wand is built to please. Hitachi’s strong vibration (which can be adjusted incrementally with the addition of the Wand Controller) makes it an unfailing friend in masturbation, and its symmetrical shape makes it a natural for partnered, face-to-face fun.

Naughty Book Club Review: Tera Patrick, Sinner Takes All

March 31st, 2010
Tera Patrick, Sinner Takes All

There was a time when the public believed that women entered the world of adult films as a result of abuse, coersion, and addiction. But over the past two decades women like Jenna Jameson have taken the image of the poor, pathetic porn star and squashed it with their 8-inch platform heels. A new generation of powerful women have taken the reigns of their sexuality and their careers. As one of the most successful adult film actresses to date and frontwoman of her own production company, Teravision, Tera Patrick has certainly embraced the image of the empowered porn mistress. But a peek between the covers of her new book, Sinner Takes All: A Memoir of Love and Porn, shows a more vulnerable girl beneath the surface that falls somewhere between the meager women of yesteryear and the Girl Power proponents of today.

Amidst the pages of black and white and full color photographs of the beautiful star, the reader learns about Tera’s early estrangement from her mother, the disappointing and disturbing loss of her virginity, and her spiral into pot and valium addiction as she attempted to make it as a model overseas. But her entry into the world of adult modeling and films marks the beginning of her road to empowerment and, eventually, to love. In fact, the entire second half of the book reads more as a love story than a porn memoir. While there are titillating descriptions of weekend-long rough sex marathons with husband Evan Seinfeld that prompt worried neighbors to call the police, the sex in this book isn’t as graphic as Tera’s fans may expect (or hope for). What they get instead is a touching tale of how love pulled her through some difficult times and helped her become the strong woman we know and lust today.

If you’re looking for an erotic read, you won’t find it here. The sex in this book is downplayed by the love, heartbreak, and true human element. However, if you’re a fan of Tera Patrick or the porn industry in general, I think you’ll really enjoy getting under the surface through this page-turning account of the star’s life and career.
