February giveaway: The Adventures of a Lesbian College Schoolgirl

February 5th, 2012

This giveaway has ended. Stay tuned for next month’s giveaway!

It’s time for giveaway #3 in my year of giveaways. This month I’m giving away my own personal copy of The Adventures of a Lesbian College Schoolgirl. This sexy, adorable comic book, along with a pearl rabbit vibrator, was the first purchase I ever made from Babeland here in Seattle. And from that day forward, a beautiful retail relationship was formed. I’ve been buying the majority of my sex toys and supplies from this Seattle icon for over a dozen years.

For this month’s giveaway, I want to hear about your first experience at a porn store, sex boutique, or even online adult toy superstore in the comments section of this post. You can just tell me what you bought, or you can give me the entire story of your trip. One commenter will be chosen at random to receive the comic book, but if anyone tells an especially great story I’ll dig through my bag of prizes (that Babeland generously supplies) and send a little extra something to that person, as well. Entries from Twitter will also be counted (be sure to address your tweet to @herknees).

A winner will be chosen on Wednesday, February 8th.

How timely! I just bought my first sex toy this past Christmas. I got the We-Vibe from Amazon.com. Not exactly a porn store, but I think it still counts.

The first (and so far only) sex toy I ever bought for myself was a cheap little cock ring with a bullet vibe holder. It’s not mind blowing, but it’s fun.

The only sex shop I’ve ever been in was one of those brightly lit superstore kind. I don’t remember what it was called, but it felt like the Wal Mart of sex stores. I ended up getting a simple bullet vibe. Ever since then I’ve really envied you guys that have those fancy sex boutique’s in your city.

My first adventure to a sex shop was at College. In my (very small) college town there is an “alternative” store. Think bongs, trippy posters, etc. On the second floor is a TON of used books. Mostly trashy romance. And if you’re brave enough to go up to the third floor (past the footstep activated alarm to alert the cashier someone is up there) you’ll find the town’s only porn and sex toy shop. Most of the space is dedicated to porn videos and some gay and straight mags and books. Very old school I guess. In one corner is a sex swing I don’t think anybody is ever going to use…

The fun part for me was going with a few of my friends and just exploring what such a small town has to offer. ;)

Didn’t get any toys there (a few things looked opened, and just generally grimy. ewww) but it did spark some great conversations and sexy times.

My first sex shop was not super fancy, but that’s not really what I need from a sex store. All I require is non-creepy, clean, and well-lit and this one had all of that.

I cant say I purchased any of their cheap sex toy products (standard selection, maybe even wider than places I’ve seen since then) but they had nice lube and in expensive lingerie in boxes.

I’ve generally left the vast porn and novelty card selection alone. They did have a bunch of bachelorette party gear that was pretty funny to browse through.

The staff was helpful and non weird and they left me alone while I shopped. The whole experience was pretty positive, and got rid of any fears I’d had about going into “those dirty porn shops.” That’s probably why I go so often today. Who knows that it would have been like if I’d started with some greasy, dark dungeon type of store with a creepy hairy dude at the register. I might have run out screaming and never looked back.

I went on my 18th birthday just for the novelty of it, and found much much more! Though I walked out without purchasing anything that day (I was broke and jobless) I did return several months later and was warmly greeted again. The woman working behind the counter was very helpful. The place did not have a creepy, cheesey feel that I expected from a sex shop. It was more like “Your friendly neighborhood sex shop.”
